When I grow up, I want to be a teacher who...
1. Demonstrates that eLearning can be as effective as face-to-face learning.
Notice I said "as effective". I don't think anyone set out to replace face-to-face learning experiences with online learning. The human connection and associated body language and tone established in a face-to-face learning experience is priceless. However, by moving courses into a digital format, we increase the accessibility of learning, allowing remote communities access to education that would otherwise be unattainable. Imagine the impact on these communities - culturally, socially, economically, personally, etc.! But how do you level the playing field when it comes to the learning experiences in an online course that would typically be taught face-to-face? At Chalk & Tablet, we have made it part of our mission to guide you through the process of leveling the playing field!
2. Puts technology in its place.
Teaching and learning evolves just like any art form, and technology is an undeniable force in this evolution. Unfortunately, the excitement about new technology has led to a scary trend: technology driving curriculum. Allowing technology to drive curricular goals often results in some nifty tools that have no positive impact on learning outcomes and cost schools a lot of money.
Curricular goals should do the driving to ensure meaningful implementation of technology. More and more learning experiences are being moved into online formats where technology is used to offset the lack of face-to-face interaction with a teacher. The Chalk & Tablet team can help you make deliberate, research-based decisions about technology integrations for online, face-to-face, or blended learning environments.
3. Reimagines and redefines eLearning.
There are so many words to describe what we refer to a 'eLearning'. I opted to share a word cloud instead of boring you with a list. With so many descriptors to choose from, it's no wonder that a clear definition is hard to find. No matter what descriptor you know or use, the word that all of these descriptors have in common is Learning. Beyond that critical component, eLearning (and many of these terms) convey the method by which learning takes place. Chalk & Tablet deliberately chose to stick with 'e' as our method indicator because it applies to any learning conducted via electronic media. To broad for you? We get it and that thought occurred to us as well. But remaining broad also means provides an opportunity to think outside of the box.
Most of our customers are businesses seeking to develop online training and educational institutions who want to move their academic programs or professional development courses online. And we LOVE helping them meet these goals. We also LOVE helping customers reimagine the use of eLearning and, thus, redefine their eLearning objectives. For instance, imagine eLearning as a marketing tool! What better way to illustrate your company's expertise than to provide a taste of it in the form of a short online course or training video? If done well, this appetizer could tempt their taste buds to purchase the full meal! And what about outreach? Face-to-face outreach limits your reach to those who need your organization's services. Moving some critical elements of your outreach program into an online format could have a dramatic impact on those you serve. Theses are just a couple ways Chalk & Tablet can help you reimagine and redefine eLearning.
